Community Outreach Opportunities

Xenos works with many community organizations that provide critical services to individuals and families who are in need. These organizations have volunteer opportunities that are great ways for folks in Xenos to get involved in our community.

  • Addictions: Help for people struggling to overcome addictions
  • Community Services: Organizations that help to provide supplies, food and meals for families in need
  • Immigrants/Refugees/Low-Income Families: Organizations that respond to the needs of the growing population of immigrants and refugees, as well as low income families
  • Ministry to the sick and ailing Organizations that make a special effort to care for the sick and dying of our community
  • Urban Ministry: Organizations that specifically work in the urban context, reaching youth, families, and communities
  • Youth Ministry: Organizations within the Columbus area that love, support and provide excellent programs for the youth of our community

Addictions:

Never Alone - Alcohol and drug abuse is a fact of life in many households. While the Bible does not prohibit using alcohol, it does speak against drunkenness. Substance abuse affects every relationship

Community Services:

American Red Cross – Our mission is to mobilize people to help their neighbors—across the street, across the country, and across the world—in emergencies with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.

Big Brother & Big Sisters – Our mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have ameasurable impact on youth.

Columbus Metro Library Our mission is to support local library branches with volunteers and enhance the library experience for the community.

Delaware County Council on Older adults- refer an older resident to us once a month to help with tasks that are beyondcapabilities now. Our efforts help keep them in their homes longer and put us in contact with some very lovely older people.

FirstLink - Our services strengthen and enhance the quality of life in our community by mobilizing volunteers and connecting people in need to community resources.

Grace Haven – Gracehaven seeks through Christian love to provide shelter and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation, and to raise awareness among young women about the issue of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) in order to educate and equip them so that they can avoid becoming victims themselves.

Jericho's Light Club - We serve 50 or more people on Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00-11:00pm to the homeless downtown Columbus. Our family serves meals at Jericho's as a family, that's all it takes.

Meals on Wheels - Meals on Wheels is a non-profit meal program providing meals to seniors. Seniors who could not or would not otherwise eat properly are provided with services that help them live a healthy and enjoyable life. Help deliver meals at noon (11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) to elderly and/or disabled persons in Columbus.

Opening Doors of Ohio - We work with men and women who are incarcerated and are returning to their communities. We work with families who have been torn apart by the separation of prison.

Salvation Army - The Salvation Army offers many ways for you and your family to reach others throughout your community.  They need help with their food pantries and providing Christmas items for over 7000 families.

Single Parent – The mission of the Single parents Ministry is to show the love of God by serving the single parents in our community in practical ways.

WARM (Westerville Area Resource Ministry) - The work of WARM will provide compassionate, short-term assistance, educational services and spiritual support in order to encourage individuals to achieve a God-reliant, self-sufficient life while restoring dignity and hope.

YMCA – At every stage of life, YMCAs are there to help children, families and individuals reach their full potential.

Immigrants/Refugees/Low-income Families:

Common Ground Free Store in Delaware – Our mission is to establish a warm and welcoming store run by volunteers where everything is available to everyone free of charge. Hours:  Mon. 10-1; Thurs. 3-6; Sat. 10-1. Donations Accepted Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

CRIS – It is an independent non-profit agency serving refugees, asylees and immigrants in central Ohio. Among local community-based organizations, CRIS is the largest agency providing services to immigrants in Central Ohio – and is the agency providing the most extensive services to immigrant populations in our area. Those services include immigration legal services and interpretation and translation

Dublin Furniture Banc – Our mission is to provide hope to individuals and families with little or nothing who are trying to restart their lives by helping them turn a house into a home and a more stable place to live by providing basic home furnishings.

GRIN (Gahanna Residents in Need) – GRIN is a non-profit Christian based community organization serving the residents within the Gahanna-Jefferson School District only. We have two major service projects (Thanksgiving & Christmas) along with assisting needy families on an emergency type of basis.

Homes on the Hill – helps provide nonprofit housing counseling.  We need some regular volunteers to return calls from clients who are requesting foreclosure prevention counseling. We could also use some administrative assistance with filing.

International Friendship Inc. – International Student ministry.  We (IFI staff, volunteers, donors, and churches) serve (outreach events, meet practical needs, and evangelistic and discipleship Bible studies) and partner with (disciple and impart vision of reaching out to family and friends) international students so that Christ can be made known among the Nations.

Ministry to the Sick and Ailing:

Final Hope - The mission is to serve those who are terminally ill.  This is accomplished by befriending the terminally ill, providing support to family members and sharing the love of Christ through word and action.

Forum at Knightsbridge - is a healthcare and senior living services provider that operates independent and assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation hospitals, institutional pharmacies and outpatient health rehabilitation clinics.

Franklin County Development Disabilities - The mission is to provide volunteers to help with hospitality during the morning and afternnon shift on Tues or Thurs once a month.

Grace Hospice - The mission is to help relieve primary caregivers by helping with household chores, sitting with patients and running errands for them.

GriefShare - It is a 13-week discussion/video group for people going through a time of grief after losing a loved one. People gather to eat together, then have discussion and watch a video. Many spiritual issues come up during grief, and it's helpful to meet with people who are going through the same thing.

HEART - The mothers and fathers who choose abortion are hurting and we can help to resolve the shame and guilt. It is the privilege of the community of believers to serve them in love and to help reconcile them to God and others.

School listing of families who are in need of meals – Many students only meals come through the school, many schools will give a list of families who could use some healthy meals delivered.  

Central Ohio Youth for Christ – reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to prayer and the Word of God, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.

  • JV Club (middle school club) Volunteer/Bible Study Leader – Volunteer can help lead a small group Bible study on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the City Life Center (40 Chicago Avenue, Columbus, 43222).  We are especially in need of leaders to start a girls’ Bible study.  More leaders can help with the already-existing boys’ Bible study.  In addition to the Wednesday night JV Club, volunteers can invest in the lives of young people during the week for 2-3 hours in a personal and spiritual way and help them come to know the love of Christ and/or grow in their walk with the Lord.
  • Office Assistant/Economis Support – Volunteer can assist in making Economic cards, filing, copying, data entry, typing, and other needed services at the City Life Center. Volunteer can help for 2-4 hours per week.
  • Campus Life – NW Licking Volunteer – We have a new facility in Johnstown and would love to have more volunteers as the program will be expanding!  Volunteers can reach out to middle school and high school teens, assist in leading weekly youth programs and Bible studies, help with administrative responsibilities, and drive the youth in the area so that they can attend the meetings.  Different activities are going on throughout the week in the evenings.
  • City Life Club/Snack Coordinator – Volunteer can be in charge of organizing other volunteers to provide snacks for High School Club (30 or so youth) which meets on Monday nights 6:30- 8 p.m.
  • Teen Parent Child Care Assistant or Lunch Provider – Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursdays, and/or Fridays to assist with care of babies and toddlers of teenage parents as they work to complete their high school education and learn parenting/life skills.  Volunteers can also interact with young mothers and children during lunch time and/or be available to transport those who need rides to and from the City Life Center.  Volunteers can also provide lunch for children and parents during this time.
  • Web Designer and Developer – Volunteer can assist in making updates and design changes to the already-existing  www.coyfc.org website.  Overtime new web pages, ministry sites, and events may be added.  Volunteer could help 2-4 hours per week and should have experience with web design programs and html.

Youth Ministry:

CARE Group - It's a ministry that provides parents with practical parenting principles based on the Bible and the message of grace.  It also provides childcare for the parents during the meeting.  It’s a monthly meeting where guests can enjoy meeting other parents and hear a great teaching on parenting.

Xenos Schools – It’s mission is to support the schools at Calumet, Harambee and Xenos with volunteers who will work with individual students and help with administrative work needed.
