2012 Vacation Bible School
What is Xenos Vacation Bible School? It’s a space adventure, with the title…”Capt. Crank and the Weirdo Aliens.” We expect that hundreds of guests will be joining us during the week of June 11-15, 2012.
- Vacation Bible School is for children from age 4 (by 06/01/2012) through 9 years old (or entering 4th grade 09/2012),
- Vacation Bible School is for Adults. Yes, adults! Each year we welcome new adult visitors, and Xenos adults hosting those visitors, to participate in a wide variety of fun and edifying activities.
Vacation Bible School has been a tremendous venue for introducing children to God, His love, and His grace while having a blast through music, drama, games, crafts, and more. A few years ago, the vision for VBS grew to include the parents of children in VBS – why not provide opportunities to share God’s love with them while their children attend VBS. This initiative has had eternal results, with many children and adults beginning personal relationships with Christ through their introductions at VBS and Adult Activities. Many of the initial visitors are now actively involved in Xenos!
The café has allowed VBS to expand this Adult Activities program. This program is overseen by the Adult Evangelism Initiatives division. For those with children too young to be in a VBS classroom, the nursery provides free childcare while parents participate in these workshops.
It takes a lot of volunteers!!
Kids and parents alike are already getting excited about participating, so it’s a good time to think – how can I be involved with Vacation Bible School this year?
INVITE:
VBS is a fun, bible-oriented week for all who participate. We prioritize guests who are not currently attending other churches, as well as the Xenos families who invite them. Priority registration is also given to Xenos families who volunteer during the week of VBS.
SERVE
VBS is a HUGE opportunity for families to minister together, in outreach and in service. Older students through High School can serve in numerous volunteer roles, working with the younger children or behind the scenes. Parents and student volunteers often choose to serve side-by-side on the same teams, or can choose independent roles. So be thinking and praying now…who will your family invite to VBS? How can you or your family serve at VBS? You’ll never have another week like it – guaranteed!
Nearly 250 volunteers are needed in a variety of roles, including: classroom teachers, snack, craft, music, prayer, registration, stage and auditorium setup/teardown, and more! Our workers are often those with children in VBS, but we’d love to expand our workforce from college through retirement aged helpers! Those workers not bringing their own children to VBS serve doubly – by freeing up a parent volunteer who can go with their guests to Adult Activities, and freeing up a class spot for a child who will be able to learn about Jesus, perhaps for the first time!
To volunteer, contact Susan Eckles, VBS Administrative Coordinator, at EcklesS@xenos.org or 823-6510 x 208. Students, please contact Cindy Freed, Student Director, FreedC@xenos.org or 823-6510 x 148.
